Work Experience: I have been working as a therapist in the concurrent disorder (substance abuse and mental health) field for the past 23 years, starting as an Addictions Counsellor with the Alcohol and Drug Referral Centre, followed by the Personality Disorders Service at Providence Care until 2017. I have specialized in trauma throughout my career.
My work in my private psychotherapy practice focuses on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Trauma, but I also see many clients with anxiety, depression, grief, recovery from accidents, and situational life stress. (The wear and tear of everyday life that sometimes keeps us stuck.) I use an integrative therapy approach, blending techniques from a variety of treatment modalities including Cognitive Behaviour therapy, Dialectical Therapy and trauma specific approaches such as EMD. I consider underlying psychodynamic perspectives ( early life experiences shape a person's view of the world, and are sometimes at the heart of interpersonal struggles and difficulties with how they experience themselves and their problems.) I am a Blue Cross provider, and see military veterans and their families (with a referral), as well as accepting referrals from doctors, psychologists and self referral. My services are covered by some insurance plans. (Always double check that your coverage includes registered social work or a registered psychotherapist before the first session.) Virtual appointments are available depending on client circumstances.
Education: I have a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology. My undergraduate degree is in Social Development Studies with an emphasis on Psychology and Social Work. I am in the third year of a 4 year Psychoanalytic training program through the Toronto Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis.
Credentials: I am a Registered Social Worker and am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario. I have EMDR certification and have completed the Mount Sinai Psychotherapy Certification program. My services are TEMA approved.
